chicken wingsDay 3 started off with a lot of excitement as I weighed in this morning down 7 pounds already! The way that processed foods and added sugars affect my weight and health is clearly evident in this challenge. Here are my day’s food selections:

At breakfast, I had 1 oz. of Ningxia Red and approx. 16 oz water and an Apple Pie Larabar. My wife has been a fan of Larabar for many years, but I had never tried them. I really wish I had. The two I have had so far are very tasty, slightly sweet, and they are all natural with no added sugar. This is going to be a new go-to ‘treat’ for me going forward. Very excited to see that they are available on Amazon Prime in both the mini and full-size versions.

Lunch was a salad with chicken. I had some ranch dressing on the side, but I had less than a spoonful. It is homemade here in our work cafeteria so I couldn’t verify if it had sugar in it. It seems that Ranch is often made with a mayonnaise base which does have sugar. In any event, I didn’t have enough to count for more than 1g.

For dinner, I had a work party that was thrown for me with beer and appetizers. Nothing there was sugar-free and being that the party was for me, I decided to just take a break from the challenge for a meal. After all, this morning’s weigh in is worth celebrating. I had 2 beers, a few nachos, 2 buffalo wings, 3 crab cakes, and some fried calamari. Estimating the calorie count is tough, but I have found that if you put in “nutrition” and then the food item in Google, it is pretty good at giving results. The party was great and I enjoyed it immensely – well worth the meal ‘off’. 😊

I was so excited about my weight loss this morning that I wrote a whole post about it. My morning was free so I was able to get in an excellent workout incorporating a new Speed Jump Rope that I got for Christmas. I feel that I’m back on track and will finally hit the 50-pound mark this week and win the competition with my wife.

My totals for the day ended at:

  • 1,660 calories
  • 119g Protein (29%)
  • 79g Fat (43%)
  • 117g Carbohydrates (28%)

Here is a link to the jump rope I received from my wife. I loved using it this morning and it will have a regular part in my workouts going forward.
